My earliest association with the word Dortmund is from my childhood, and is far from positive. I recall the 96/97 Champions League semi final, where, in Dortmund, Manchester United lost 1-0, the shot from the edge of the area just brushing the fingertips of the diving Raimond Van der Gouw on its way into the net. Borussia Dortmund went on to reach the final 2-0 on aggregate, where they beat Juventus in Hungary.
Historically an industrial city, Dortmund will be home to the INTERTABAK, the biggest tobacco fair in Europe.
